 Sweet treats

You’d be right in thinking these scrumptious looking treats are simply too good to eat – they’re actually lovingly hand-made couture faux cakes that are definitely better on your kitchen dresser than on your plate. Made from sponge and finished off with satin and beads, they’ll make for the perfect quirky gift. Tier of couture cakes on vintage china tiered cake stand, $270 from Eat Me Not Patisserie.

 Alexa makes cover girl

Can that really be Alexa Chung (London’s hottest export) I see before me on the cover of Elle October issue? It sure as hell doesn’t look like her… From skull necklace making to Elle cover making - way to go! (The photos inside of her are fab too and there’s a great little interview in which Chung reveals her favourite secret London haunts… oh, and why Karl Lagerfeld is her number one fan.)

 Coleen and fashion

StyleJunkee’s favourite WAG Coleen McLoughlin has just launched her new fashion book Coleen’s Real Style. ”I know what the criticism is going to be before the book is even launched” she told the Mirror newspaper. “It’s going to be, ‘What does she know about fashion and style she got it wrong here, she got it wrong there’. But those people who criticise me, what do they know about fashion that I don’t know?” Hmmm, that’s sorted that then. The thing is - what we all really do know is this: Coleen most likely didn’t write much of it at all so who’s to say we’re going to find out what she knows about fashion from the book in any case? That said - I’ll be buying a copy - well of course!… Coleen’s Real Style, £8.99 at Amazon.co.uk

 Marian Newman has it nailed

Why oh why has no one come up with this before? Marian Newman is a genius. The nail guru’s latest product (and this is hot off the press) is a nail colour in a pen. It’s a nail colour that dries in an instant and can be changed as easily as you change a top. It changes everything… (Oh, in case you haven’t heard of Queen of talons Newman, she’s THE nail supremo of the moment - loved by the glossies and very very highly revered in the industry). Inkredible nail colour kits, £22 from Mariannewmannails.com (Go for Gold Leaf or Platinum to be bang on trend with this season’s metallics.)

 Nameplate necklaces

Carrie in Sex and the City may have made them cool some time ago (before that they were the height of trailor-trash) but personalised nameplate necklaces are still pretty high up there in the must-have stakes. If you haven’t got yours yet what are you waiting for? Reese Witherspoon was seen eyeing one up in Portobello Road recently and Peaches Geldof is often seen sporting hers. Punkypins.co.uk offer personalised gold necklaces like this one for the bargain price of £20. While you’re at it why not get a few, one for each of your alter egos perhaps?

 Heavy metal

This limited edition Shimmering Nudes palette is the latest offering from super-slick cult make-up brand Bobbi Brown. It’s sure to be a sell-out not least because it perfectly embraces this season’s rich metallic beauty trend. Choose high-shimmer metallics for a glitzy and glamorous evening look or go for softer pearlised shimmers in the daytime. The rich espresso shade makes for a fabulous eye lining finishing touch. £40 (and, we think, worth every penny) at Bobbibrown.co.uk or at the Bobbi Brown counters of major department stores.

Wake up and smell the coffee

Do you love the smell of coffee so much you’d like a coffee scented candle? Hmmmm…. Those caffeine crazed bods at Nespresso (the luxury portioned coffee innovator) clearly think you do and have just invented a line of coffee fragranced candles to prove it. The company worked with renowned perfumer Olivia Giacobetti to capture the profiles of the regions their coffee comes from so the end result is the business… as far as scented candle excellence goes, that is. The five scented candles cost £27 each and are available at Nespresso boutiques at Beauchamp Place, Knightsbridge, Harrods, Selfridges and online at Nespresso.com

 Must-have earrings

So we’ve a credit crunch on the go and apparently it’s now de rigeur to treat oneself to a new lipstick - rather than a posh new outfit, designer handbag or the like. (Sales of lipsticks, and other cosmetics, are often seen as an indicator of economic decline and sales of L’Oreal products are up year on year.) So… I’m thinking if a lipstick is okay as a treat, why not a pair of chandelier earrings as seen on Kate Moss at Leah Wood’s wedding recently? Well you would wouldn’t you? These ASOS Cut-out Detail and Metal Disc Drop earrings, £8 at ASOS.com, have ‘credit crunch treat’ written all over them.

 Target those spots

Silly me - I thought as soon as you hit adulthood spots and acne became a thing of the past, something assigned to the best forgotten area of adolescence… but, oh no, apparently a study has revealed that a whopping 40-50% of the population suffers from mild adult acne. Luckily those clever scientists at Dermalogica have come up with MediBac Clearing - a 24-hour treatment system that promises to clear skin, reduce excess oils and elimate bacteria… Overnight clearing gel, £34 from Dermalogica.co.uk

Kate’s words are as smooth as velvet

According to La Moss her new fragrance Velvet Hour (which launches in September) “conjures up that special moment when night comes and envelops you in velvet.” Hmmm. Is that right, Kate? In that case we can’t wait to smell ‘the moment’ - hopefully then we’ll understand what on earth you’re on about…

 So not the wrong trousers

Move over David Beckham and all other celebs advertising retail brands, it’s now the turn of the plasticine designer dude. Kitted out in designer clobber by Paul Smith, D&G and Giorgio Armani, everyone’s favourite plasticine animation characters Wallace and Grommit star in a brand new advertising campaign to mark the opening of Harvey Nichols new Bristol outlet. StyleJunkee is particularly enamored by Lady Campanula Tottington’s chic new look for the ads - an Alexander McQueen draped dress and Christian Louboutin shoes.
